A tragic house fire in Bel Aire claimed the life of Timothy W. Gentry, a 67-year-old resident. His son, Joshua Gentry, 41, has been charged in connection with the blaze. According to court documents filed on Wednesday in Sedgwick County District Court, Joshua faces charges of aggravated arson and reckless involuntary manslaughter.
The fire broke out early Sunday morning at 5917 Flagstaff, with emergency responders arriving shortly after 2 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames. Timothy Gentry was discovered inside the home and was transported to a hospital, where he later passed away. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The damage to the home is estimated at $120,000, with an additional $40,000 in lost contents.
Joshua Gentry, who was found outside the house with burn injuries, was hospitalized, treated, and subsequently taken into custody. He is currently held in jail with a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to return to court on September 9.
