Fatal Lockeford motorcycle crash death of James Austin – Obituary
James Austin, a 61-year-old resident of Woodbridge, was identified Wednesday as the victim of a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred north of Lockeford. The incident took place Monday evening on Peltier Road east of Pearl Road. Austin was riding his 2022 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when it collided with a 2007 Toyota Camry.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the Toyota was headed west on Peltier Road around 7:40 p.m. when the driver, a 40-year-old male, began to slow down for a left turn into a private driveway. Austin, also traveling west, reportedly approached at speeds exceeding 100 mph. As the Toyota made its turn, Austin attempted to pass by crossing over broken yellow lines into the eastbound lane. This maneuver led to a collision between the front of the motorcycle and the rear of the Toyota.
The impact caused the Toyota to spin and come to a stop in a driveway on the road’s south shoulder. The motorcycle, diverted off the road, overturned, and Austin was thrown from the bike, striking a nearby tree. The motorcycle then caught fire. Despite emergency responders’ efforts to save him, Austin was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Toyota driver complained of pain but was not seriously injured, as reported by CHP officials.
