Fatal Yukon plane crash death of Jean-Jacques Gemme – Obituary
Jean-Jacques Gemme, 68, from Amherst, Quebec, perished in a small aircraft accident in Haines Junction on Monday afternoon. The plane, which was carrying Gemme and four other passengers, along with the pilot, crashed at the Haines Junction airport following a sightseeing flight.
The Yukon Coroner’s Service reported that Gemme had been traveling since May 4, journeying through the western U.S. and Canada, and was en route to Alaska when the incident occurred. The condition of the remaining passengers is unknown, but medevac planes were present in the town following the crash.
The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) revealed that the Cessna U206 aircraft “collided with terrain on the airport’s ground” around 3:30 p.m. The TSB, RCMP, and Yukon coroner are actively investigating the crash. The plane was operated by Rocking Star Adventures, based in Burwash Landing, Yukon, which provides glacier sightseeing flights and air charter services.
