The Yukon Coroner’s Service has identified Jean-Jacques Gemme, 68, from Amherst, Quebec, as the victim in a tragic plane crash that occurred in Haines Junction on Monday afternoon. The small aircraft, operated by Rocking Star Adventures, crashed at the Haines Junction airport following a sightseeing flight.
According to the Transportation Safety Board (TSB), the Cessna U206 collided with terrain on the airport grounds shortly after 3:30 p.m. Gemme was one of five passengers on board, including the pilot. The condition of the other individuals aboard remains unclear, although medevac planes were reportedly deployed to the town following the accident.
Gemme had embarked on a journey from Quebec on May 4, traveling through the western U.S. and Canada, and was en route to Alaska when he and his companion stopped in Haines Junction. The TSB, RCMP, and Yukon Coroner’s Office are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
