The body of Latasha Jefferson, a 36-year-old Pittsburgh woman, was found in the Monongahela River near Sandcastle waterpark on Thursday afternoon. According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, first responders were alerted to the scene around 1:30 p.m. on reports of a woman’s body along the shoreline.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as Jefferson, who had been reported missing the previous day. The cause and manner of her death are still under investigation by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Allegheny County police’s homicide unit responded to the scene, though no signs of foul play were immediately apparent. The waterpark, located in West Homestead along the river, was closed at the time of the discovery and will resume operations during Labor Day weekend.
