**Fatal Myrtle Beach murder death of Penni Whiteside – Obituary

Penni Whiteside, 51, was found deceased under a firepit in Myrtle Beach in June, leading to the arrest of Dennis Bright, a 54-year-old resident of Orangeburg, South Carolina, on murder charges. Bright was taken into custody early Thursday morning after authorities in Orangeburg executed a warrant at his residence on Broughton Street. He is currently being transported back to Myrtle Beach and is scheduled to appear in magistrate court on Friday.

Whiteside, who had been reported missing since the spring of 2022, was last seen living with Bright, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office. The Myrtle Beach police noted that the arrest warrant for Bright was related to her disappearance and an incident that occurred on May 11, 2022, on 1st Avenue South.

Police discovered Whiteside’s body after obtaining a search warrant and examining the property on June 12. The investigation followed neighborhood tips suggesting that she might have been buried under a firepit in the backyard.

“This is a tragic loss and a senseless act of violence,” police commented. “We ask that you keep the victim’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.”

Orangeburg, located approximately 140 miles west of Myrtle Beach and 50 miles south of Columbia, was involved in the investigation, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service and the Carolina’s Regional Fugitive Task Force.
