Hyderabad: Rupak Reddy, a 25-year-old student from Ichapuram in Andhra Pradesh, tragically drowned in Lake George while vacationing in the US. Reddy had been studying for his MS degree at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology in Pennsylvania since his arrival eight months ago.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when Reddy and a friend were boating on Lake George. Despite wearing a life jacket, Reddy somehow slipped out of it and drowned. Rescue teams later recovered his body.
This incident echoes a recent tragedy in Australia, where two Indian students drowned at Millaa Millaa Falls near Cairns. As is often the case, students abroad face risks due to accidents and other unforeseen events, and Reddy’s death is another addition to the unfortunate list of Indian students who have lost their lives overseas.
