POLK COUNTY, Iowa — The identities of the two individuals who lost their lives in a tragic collision in rural Polk County have been confirmed.
On Tuesday, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as 25-year-old Trey Joseph Ridgeway from Ankeny and 23-year-old Jayden Anna Hughes from Clear Lake. The fatal crash occurred Friday afternoon at the intersection of NW 44th Street and NW 126th Avenue, situated northeast of Polk City.
Initial findings indicate that Ridgeway and Hughes were traveling eastbound on NW 126th Avenue when their vehicle collided with another vehicle heading south on NW 44th Street. The collision caused their car to come to a stop near a treeline and it was subsequently consumed by fire.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported that both Ridgeway and Hughes were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, an adult female, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
