A tragic accident occurred on Route 422 near Robesonia late Thursday afternoon, resulting in the death of Brian T. Strubhar, 56. The collision happened around 4:30 p.m. at the Penn Avenue and Big Spring Road intersection in Heidelberg Township. Route 422 was closed for much of the evening as authorities conducted their investigation.
Strubhar was declared deceased at 4:53 p.m. by a medical professional who was present at the scene, according to the Berks County coroner’s office. The official cause of death is still under investigation.
The crash, which took place in the eastbound lane of Penn Avenue, involved another driver who sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital. His condition is currently reported as stable, though his identity has not been disclosed by the authorities.
The South Heidelberg Township police, responsible for the area including Heidelberg, Wernersville, and Robesonia, are working with state police to determine the cause of the accident. Witnesses are encouraged to reach out to South Heidelberg police at 610-670-9885.
The police expressed their gratitude to the staff at Penn State Health Medical Group – Robesonia Family Medicine for their role in treating the injured. Other agencies assisting at the scene included Lower Heidelberg Township police, Western Berks Fire Department, Robesonia Fire Company, and several fire police officers from Berks County.
Strubhar’s death marks the 31st motor vehicle fatality in Berks County this year.
