On Thursday morning, a tragic incident unfolded in Rockville, resulting in the deaths of two men in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide. Civil Jean Calixte, a 60-year-old resident of Gaithersburg, was identified as the victim. Montgomery County police responded to a report of a shooting on Southlawn Lane at around 7:50 a.m., where they discovered Calixte suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by first responders, Calixte was pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital.
The suspect, identified as 53-year-old Dario Villard from Laurel, allegedly shot Calixte before fleeing the scene in a gray Toyota Tacoma. A responding officer later spotted Villard’s vehicle near the intersection of Avery and Norbeck roads. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer heard a gunshot and found Villard inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Villard was also transported to a hospital, where he later died.
Authorities have linked this incident to a domestic-related shooting that occurred the previous evening in Laurel. Villard had been wanted on an attempted first-degree murder charge connected to that incident. Both men were known to each other, according to the police.
Autopsies for both Calixte and Villard were scheduled for Friday. The investigation continues, with authorities treating Calixte’s death as a homicide and Villard’s as a suicide.
