15-year-old Edwin Gonzalez-Rosendo drowns off Myrtle Beach coast, coroner reports
Fatal Myrtle Beach drowning of Edwin Gonzalez-Rosendo – Obituary
Over the weekend, Edwin Gonzalez-Rosendo, a 15-year-old from North Carolina, tragically drowned while swimming off Myrtle Beach, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.
His body was discovered near 18th Avenue South, not far from the Hampton Inn, at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Authorities began their search around 12th Avenue South at 5:20 p.m. following reports of two individuals in distress.
They managed to rescue one person, but the search for Gonzalez-Rosendo continued with the involvement of Myrtle Beach ocean rescue, beach patrol, fire, police, and Coast Guard units.
A local beachgoer described the severe rip currents experienced over the weekend, likening the conditions to a washing machine and advising against swimming past waist-deep water.
The Myrtle Beach police are currently investigating the incident.
