Fatal Grayson County car crash death of Amara Grandy – Obituary
Three siblings from East Texas have tragically died following a vehicle accident in Grayson County. On Friday evening at around 7:20 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety reported a collision involving three vehicles on US 69 near Penny Road.
The accident involved a Hyundai Elantra, driven by 40-year-old Hyrum Grandy from Lone Oak, traveling south. Two vehicles ahead, a Ford F-150 driven by 34-year-old Angel Martinez from Celest was also heading south. At the same time, a Chevy Silverado, operated by 29-year-old Lane Recer from Trenton, was heading north.
As the vehicles started to slow down, Hyrum Grandy swerved onto the shoulder to avoid a crash but then re-entered the southbound lane, colliding with Martinez’s truck. This caused Grandy’s vehicle to move into the northbound lane, where it was hit by Recer’s truck.
The crash resulted in the deaths of three children in Hyrum Grandy’s car: Amara Grandy, 13; Alexander Grandy, 14; and Alvin Grandy, 10. The Rains Independent School District confirmed that the children were students in the district.
In a statement, the school district expressed their grief: “Wildcat Nation, it is with great sadness and a broken heart that I share with you we have lost 3 of our young wildcats. Xander and Amara were both wonderful student-athletes who embodied the spirit of our community. We ask for your prayers for the family and for our district as we face this tragedy. May we find strength to support each other through this difficult time.”
A GoFundMe page has been established to help the Grandy family during this challenging period. Family members have reported that Hyrum Grandy sustained injuries but was discharged from the hospital the following day.
The incident remains under investigation.
