Fatal Rice County car crash death of Brantley McCarty – Obituary
Brantley McCarty, a 14-year-old resident of Cannon Falls, tragically lost his life on Wednesday, August 28.
The accident occurred near Elko New Market when a Ford F-150 veered into the path of a GMC Sierra pickup, which was carrying McCarty. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In response to the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign was quickly established to assist the McCarty family during this difficult time. Originally set with a $10,000 goal, the fund has now surpassed $22,000, providing crucial support to the family as they cope with their loss. The donations will also contribute to a memorial fund in Brantley’s honor.
Both drivers involved in the crash—a 20-year-old man in the Ford and a 16-year-old boy in the GMC—sustained critical injuries and were transported to hospitals in the metro area. Their current conditions remain unknown.
Rice County Sheriff Jesse Thomas expressed sympathy for those affected, stating, “Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones affected by this tragic incident.” Authorities have indicated that impairment is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
