The Iowa State Patrol has disclosed further details about a tragic accident in downtown Des Moines, which began with a police pursuit. The crash resulted in the death of 16-year-old Chad Nicholson.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday when an Iowa State Trooper attempted to pull over a vehicle on I-235.
The driver exited the highway and fled down Grand Avenue, ultimately crashing into another car at the intersection of 7th Street and Grand Avenue before crashing into the Ruan Center.
The vehicle involved in the accident carried five occupants. Chad Nicholson, a passenger aged 16, was declared dead at the scene.
The other individuals injured include two 16-year-olds, one of whom was the driver, a 15-year-old, and 20-year-old Christopher Lame, Jr. None of the occupants were using seatbelts, and the car was reported stolen.
