Fatal Pampa house fire death of David Lee and Elizabeth Grantham – Obituary
David Lee, 75, and his wife, Elizabeth Grantham, 73, tragically lost their lives in a house fire at their residence on 902 E. Browning in Pampa on Thursday around 4:15 p.m.
The blaze, which was initially reported with heavy smoke and flames coming from the porch area, led to the discovery of Lee severely injured on the front lawn.
He was transported to Lubbock but passed away the following day. Grantham was declared dead at the scene.
According to Fire Marshal Jason Roberts, Lee informed firefighters that they had been watching TV when they heard an explosion and attempted to escape.
The fire was reportedly ignited by a cigarette Lee had carelessly discarded in a flower pot.
The explosion was caused by a wasp spray can that was placed in a trash bin on the porch.
Roberts emphasized that cigarette-related fires are frequent and advised smokers to ensure that their cigarettes are completely extinguished before disposal to prevent such incidents.
The victim’s family, who were at the scene to salvage what they could, chose not to comment.
