Fatal Surry, Maine solar farm death of Edwin Kendall Jones – Obituary
Edwin Kendall Jones, a 52-year-old from Washington, Maine, passed away while working at Nexamp’s Surry Solar on Thursday morning due to a medical event.
Initial assumptions suggested electrocution, but officials later determined that the cause of death was related to a medical condition.
Emergency responders, including Maine State Police, were alerted to the incident on Surry Road shortly before noon. Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, confirmed that Jones had suffered a medical issue while on the job.
His body has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for further examination.
Earlier, Surry Fire Chief Bryan McLellan had reported that the response teams were dispatched to the site following a call about an electrocution.
A witness described how Jones fell after making a distress call, and efforts to revive him included CPR administered by a coworker before firefighters took over.
Despite the arrival of an ambulance, Jones was pronounced dead on the scene approximately 45 minutes later.
Keith Hevenor, a spokesperson for Nexamp, verified that the incident involved a contractor’s employee and emphasized that the cause of death is still under investigation.
The Maine State Police are leading the inquiry, and no further details about Jones’ identity have been disclosed.
Hevenor assured that Nexamp is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation and providing necessary support.
The Occupational Health and Safety Administration has also been notified of the incident.
