Fatal Key Biscayne hit-and-run boat crash death of Ella Riley Adler – Obituary
Ella Riley Adler, a 15-year-old student from Ransom Everglades School, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run boat accident off Key Biscayne on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
Ella was water skiing near Nixon Beach when a boat struck her and fled the scene, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The boat, described as a center console vessel with a light blue hull and possibly blue or dark blue bottom paint, was last seen heading west from Nixon Beach.
Emergency responders reported a significant amount of blood in the water. Ella had been celebrating a friend’s birthday on a family boat at the time of the incident.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava expressed deep sorrow over the loss and called for improved boating safety to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The Ransom Everglades School community, including students, staff, and teachers, is mourning the loss of Ella.
Head of School Rachel Rodriguez noted that Ella excelled in academics and the arts, actively participating in various school activities and embodying the school’s mission.
The Miami City Ballet, where Ella performed in “The Nutcracker,” also shared its condolences, describing her as a beloved dancer who brought joy to everyone around her.
Ella’s family remembers her as compassionate and dedicated to her Jewish heritage.
She was the great-granddaughter of Holocaust survivors and was deeply proud of her Jewish roots.
Friends and family have left touching tributes on her obituary, recalling her warm personality and the positive impact she had on their lives.
A memorial service for Ella will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Temple Beth Sholom in Miami Beach.
Authorities are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the responsible boater.
