Fatal Chicago shooting death of Katrina J. Brown – Obituary
A 49-year-old woman, identified as Katrina J. Brown, was fatally shot during a drive-by shooting that escalated into a shootout in the West Pullman neighborhood on Friday night.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. as Brown was sitting on a porch in the 11800 block of South Indiana Avenue with another man. An unidentified individual in a dark-colored SUV began shooting at them.
The man with Brown, who possessed a concealed carry license, returned fire, causing the SUV driver to flee the scene.
Brown, who was struck in the face and arm, was initially treated by Chicago fire crews and transported to Roseland Hospital in critical condition. She later succumbed to her injuries.
Local violence prevention groups were active in the area the following day, attempting to curb further violence.
Ieasha Monette, outreach supervisor with Roseland Ceasefire, emphasized their efforts to engage with community members to prevent future violence and gather information about the shooting.
Street Pastor Donovan Price noted the emotional impact of the scene and expressed hope for a peaceful weekend.
The drive-by shooter left behind more than two dozen shell casings, underscoring the severity of the incident. As of Saturday, no arrests have been made, and Area Two detectives are conducting an investigation.
The man who returned fire was unharmed, and a handgun was recovered at the scene.
