William Thomas Johnson dies in fatal Merry Hill shooting

Fatal Merry Hill shooting death of William Thomas Johnson – Obituary

Bertie County authorities have identified the victim of Saturday night’s shooting in Merry Hill as 60-year-old William Thomas Johnson from Plymouth.

The incident took place outside a Dollar General store around 9:30 p.m., where Johnson was found in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of EMS personnel, he was declared dead at the scene.

 

The suspect, described as a Black male wearing a blue hoodie and black pants, fled on foot before getting into a vehicle near the scene.

The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details about the suspect. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case.

 

Authorities from the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, Down East Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and Ahoskie Police Department have been searching for the suspect, but no arrests have been made.
