Fatal Magdala truck crash death of Ian and Rose Hampel – Obituary
Ian and Rose Hampel, a married couple from Magdala, tragically lost their lives when their Toyota ute collided with a truck on Friday afternoon. The accident occurred north of Adelaide on Owen Road, approximately 70 kilometers from the South Australian capital.
Emergency services responded to the scene around 2 p.m. on May 17, 2024. According to reports, the Toyota ute and a Selleck Transport truck crashed head-on before striking a stobie pole and causing power lines to fall. Both Ian, 67, and Rose, 63, were pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, a 65-year-old from Smithfield, was unharmed.
The road was closed for several hours and reopened at 12:30 a.m. the following day. Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision. The Hampels’ deaths mark the 35th and 36th traffic fatalities in South Australia this year.
