Fatal Callaway County motorcycle crash death of James Moore – Obituary
James Moore, a 66-year-old resident of Auxvasse, lost his life in a motorcycle accident on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred at 4:45 p.m. on Interstate 70 when Moore, traveling westbound, veered off the road, struck a ditch, and was ejected from his 2003 Harley Davidson.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:11 p.m. and his body was taken to Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Moore was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
In 2019, Missouri passed a law allowing motorcyclists over 26 to ride without helmets if they have insurance.
The Missouri Department of Transportation reported a 14% rise in motorcycle fatalities last year, with 174 deaths on state roads, and 56% of those riders were not wearing helmets.
This represents a 48% increase from the 118 motorcycle fatalities in 2020.
