Fatal Jefferson County ambulance crash death of Jeremy Sutton – Obituary
In Jefferson County, Tennessee, Jeremy Sutton, a paramedic, tragically died and another was injured when their ambulance was hit by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 40. The incident occurred on Saturday night around 9:30 p.m. as the Jefferson County EMS ambulance was responding to another accident.
The ambulance, heading south on I-81, was attempting to merge onto I-40 eastbound when it was struck by the tractor-trailer at the I-40/I-81 interchange. The collision happened on the driver’s side of the ambulance. Both paramedics were rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with severe injuries.
Jeremy Sutton, 44, was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The Jefferson County Rescue Squad issued a statement expressing their sorrow over the loss of their assistant chief and requested prayers for the injured paramedic, who was also a volunteer with the squad.
A procession to honor Paramedic Jeremy Sutton will be held this afternoon, departing from the Knox County Forensic Center at 5:30 p.m., proceeding to Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City. The route will follow I-40 to Hwy 11E. The community is encouraged to pay their respects safely along the procession route.
