Leon W. Gruss dies in fatal Lackawanna County explosion
Fatal Lackawanna County home explosion death of Leon W. Gruss – Obituary
Leon W. Gruss, 91, from Jefferson Township, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, at 12:38 a.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, following a home explosion. According to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio, Gruss succumbed to burns covering 51% of his body caused by the blast and ensuing fire.
The explosion took place on Tuesday, August 20, around 2:15 p.m. at the 1000 Block of Mount Cobb Road in Jefferson Township. Diane Gruss, 75, was identified as the other fatality who died at the scene, as confirmed by the Lackawanna County Coroner’s Office.
The incident is under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police, Dunmore Station, and the Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Company.
