Fatal Glenville car crash claims the life of Elijah E. Holmes – Obituary
Authorities have released the identities of the four individuals who perished in the early morning crash on Route 5 in Glenville. The victims have been named as Elijah E. Holmes, 24, Nyvon J. Irizarry, 25, Quiessence A. Irizarry, 24, and John E. Kemp, 24, all residents of Schenectady.
According to Glenville Police, the tragic incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. on Amsterdam Road (Route 5), near Waters Road. A 2022 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound when it veered off the road, went airborne, and collided with multiple trees before coming to a halt in a ditch. All four occupants, including one female and three males, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities believe that speed may have played a significant role in the crash, and investigators are currently examining the vehicle’s black box to determine the speed at which it was traveling. Multiple vehicles were reportedly at the scene shortly after the accident, but police are still investigating whether they were associated with the crash or merely arrived afterward.
While there are no suspects and the crash is not being treated as a criminal investigation, Glenville Police are urging anyone with information, particularly if there is video footage from another vehicle, to come forward. The Schenectady County Medical Examiner will be conducting autopsies to further understand the cause of the deaths.
Among the victims were siblings Nyvon and Quiessence Irizarry, who leave behind young children. Their close friend, Kaylee Jimenez, expressed her grief, saying, “Blood couldn’t have made us any closer. We’ve been friends for years; I mean we’ve lived at each other’s houses, fed each other, we’ve snuck out of houses to be with each other. It’s a friendship that was unexplainable.”
In response to the tragedy, the community has rallied to support the Irizarry family. A GoFundMe page has been established to help cover funeral expenses and assist their mother in raising her grandchildren. So far, the fundraiser has garnered over $3,900 in donations.
