Authorities have identified the driver involved in the tragic crash at Park Tavern in St. Louis Park on Sunday night as 56-year-old Steven Frane Bailey. Bailey was arrested and booked into Hennepin County Jail on probable cause for criminal vehicular homicide, though formal charges are yet to be filed.
The devastating incident, which occurred on the restaurant’s patio, claimed the lives of two individuals, including a Park Tavern server and mother of three, Kristina Folkerts. Four others sustained injuries, all of whom were employed at Methodist Hospital.
Initially, it was reported that three people had been injured along with two fatalities. However, a statement from Methodist Hospital confirmed that four nurses were injured in the crash. One of the deceased was described as a beloved colleague at Methodist Hospital and HealthPartners.
In response to the tragedy, Park Tavern announced its temporary closure, stating that the decision was made to support their staff and community. A memorial has been established at the restaurant, featuring flowers and shirts bearing the business’s name draped over chairs.
Dr. Thomas Stark of Methodist Hospital spoke about the crash, revealing that a group of colleagues had been celebrating the upcoming departure of an ICU nurse, identified as Laura, who is now hospitalized with severe injuries. Stark also shared that one of the two fatalities, a male ICU unit coordinator at the hospital, was known for his kindness and dedication.
Law enforcement continues to investigate the incident, with surveillance footage showing the driver entering the parking lot before accelerating into the patio area. Authorities are working to uncover the exact circumstances leading up to the crash, and more information is expected as the investigation progresses.
