Oluwatobi “Tobi” Alaga, 41, from Toronto, succumbed to his injuries after a shooting at the intersection of College Street and Spadina Avenue early Monday morning, according to police.
Toronto police have confirmed that Alaga, who was rushed to the hospital, became the city’s 41st homicide victim of the year. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended or charged in connection with the shooting.
The incident occurred around 4:50 a.m. when police were alerted to the area. It was later revealed that a dispute involving several men escalated, leading to the fatal shooting. According to a police statement released on Tuesday, one man was struck by gunfire during the altercation.
Witnesses reported seeing two individuals fleeing northbound on Spadina Avenue shortly after the shots were fired.
Investigators are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of College Street and Spadina Avenue between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., or anyone with dashboard camera footage, to contact the authorities.
