Amari Justin Young dies in fatal Auburn shooting
Fatal Auburn shooting death of Amari Justin Young – Obituary
A 21-year-old man, identified as Amari Justin Young from Opelika, was fatally shot by police in Auburn late Monday night.
The incident occurred at The Magnolia at Auburn apartments on Longleaf Drive.
Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton confirmed that Young was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:21 p.m.
Following the incident, Young’s body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy.
The State Bureau of Investigation is taking charge of the investigation, a routine procedure for shootings involving law enforcement.
According to ALEA Lt. Jeremy Burkett, the Auburn Police Department had responded to the apartment complex following an unspecified service call.
While an officer was inside the apartment handling the situation, Young, who was armed, reportedly forced his way inside. No officers were injured during the encounter.
The findings of the investigation will be submitted to the Lee County District Attorney’s Office for review.
