Fatal Phelan car crash claims the life of 85-year-old Andrew L. Shih – Obituary
An Adelanto resident, Andrew L. Shih, 85, lost his life in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 138 near Phelan over the weekend, as confirmed by authorities.
The accident occurred on Friday at approximately 9:10 p.m. on Highway 138 at Sayle Road, located just south of Phelan, according to officials from the San Bernardino County Coroner and the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Shih was driving a 2006 Ford pickup truck heading west on Sayle Road at an undetermined speed when the crash occurred. Meanwhile, a 60-year-old man from Moreno Valley was driving a 2022 Nissan eastbound on Highway 138 at about 55 mph, according to the CHP report.
The report stated, “The Ford made an unsafe left turn, crossing into oncoming traffic, directly in the path of the Nissan. The front right of the Ford collided with the front of the Nissan, causing the Ford to overturn.”
Shih succumbed to his injuries at the scene, officials reported.
The driver of the Nissan sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. No arrests were made in connection with the incident.
