Fatal Hawaii Island crash claims the life of Densiann Denno – Obituary
Hawaii Island police have identified Densiann Denno, a 20-year-old from Hilo, as the pedestrian killed in a crash that occurred in June.
The accident took place on June 23 around 8:30 p.m. on Highway 130, near Orchidland Drive. Denno was struck by an SUV traveling northwest on the highway while she was in the middle of the road. At the time, it was raining, which contributed to poor visibility.
Denno was found unresponsive at the scene and was initially taken to Hilo Benioff Medical Center. She was later airlifted to Queens Medical Center in critical condition.
Sadly, Denno passed away on June 25. Authorities were only recently informed of her death as part of their ongoing investigation into the incident.
An autopsy was performed at Queens Medical Center, but the Hawaii Island police are still awaiting the results. Investigators have stated that neither speed nor impairment are believed to have been factors in the crash. The driver of the SUV was unharmed.
This incident marks the 22nd traffic fatality on Hawaii Island this year, a significant increase from the 12 fatalities recorded at the same time last year. The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
