Fatal Yuba County wrong-way DUI crash death of Francisca Monzono – Obituary
A tragic incident occurred in Yuba County early Monday morning when a 19-year-old driver, Alannah Eastern of Elk Grove, was involved in a serious wrong-way collision.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Eastern was driving a white Buick sedan northbound on the southbound McGowan off-ramp before merging onto Highway 70 around 5:30 a.m.
She crashed head-on into a silver Toyota traveling south. The driver of the Toyota, 47-year-old Francisca Monzono of Elverta, was killed in the accident, and her passenger sustained significant injuries.
Both Eastern and her passenger were hospitalized with major injuries. Eastern was later arrested on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony DUI causing injury, as she was found to be under the influence of alcohol. The incident remains under investigation.
