A growing tribute of flowers and heartfelt messages now adorns the front of Park Tavern, following a tragic incident where a man drove an SUV into a busy patio area on Sunday night in St. Louis Park. This accident resulted in two fatalities and left four others injured.

 

Dr. Thomas Stark noted that the victims were simply enjoying a farewell gathering when the tragedy occurred. The festive atmosphere of Park Tavern’s patio has turned into a site of grief and reflection.

 

Staff from Methodist Hospital were among those affected, as they were celebrating a colleague’s departure. Stark received the distressing news that the victims included people he knew well.

The crash happened just after 8 p.m., with authorities arriving to find that an SUV had driven into the crowded patio.

 

Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed the driver initially entering the parking lot and then accelerating into the patio area.

Stark confirmed that one of the deceased, Gabe Harvey, was the ICU coordinator at Methodist Hospital. The hospital later verified Harvey’s identity through a GoFundMe campaign set up in his honor.

 

Philip Weber, owner of Park Tavern, was vacationing when he received the devastating news. Kristina Folkerts, an employee serving on the patio, was also killed. Weber expressed his deep sorrow and recalled fond memories of Folkerts, who had followed in her mother’s footsteps as a server at the tavern.

 

Avery Courneya, a colleague of Folkerts, shared her anguish and admiration for her coworker, expressing how deeply the loss has affected her.

 

Park Tavern, known for its welcoming atmosphere, now receives support from the community through hugs and floral tributes. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to aid Folkerts’ family.

 

Methodist Hospital issued a statement expressing their grief and support for the affected families and colleagues, emphasizing the strong bonds within their community. They also acknowledged Park Tavern’s longstanding partnership with the hospital.

 

The investigation into the incident continues, with community members coming together to support one another in this difficult time.
