The Franklin County Coroner’s Office has identified Justin Randolph Moore, 33, of Columbus’ Northland area, as the individual who died following a high-speed chase with Columbus police.
The incident occurred when Moore crashed his vehicle into a tree on Wednesday, August 14, at approximately 7:06 p.m. Moore had been sought for felonious assault related to a violent attack on his child’s mother on August 12, according to court records.
Moore is alleged to have assaulted the woman, rendering her unconscious, before stabbing and slashing her when she regained consciousness and attempted to de-escalate the situation. After the assault, he fled, prompting a warrant for his arrest.
Police located Moore driving a silver Chevrolet Impala near East 23rd and Gladstone avenues.
When officers attempted a traffic stop, Moore fled, initiating a high-speed pursuit.
Dash camera footage captures Moore reversing into a police cruiser and continuing to evade capture through residential streets and alleyways.
The chase ended when Moore lost control of his Impala and collided with a tree at East 22nd and Medina avenues.
Despite attempts by numerous officers to remove him from the vehicle, Moore was transported to Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
No officers were reported injured during the pursuit or the crash.
