Fatal Livingston County drowning death of Michael Vincent Charrette – Obituary
Michael Vincent Charrette, a 68-year-old resident of St. Clair Shores, drowned in a Livingston County lake on August 24.
He was swimming in Lake Chemung, located between Grand River Avenue and South Hughes Road in Genoa Township, when the incident occurred. Charrette was reported missing around 5:30 p.m. while swimming with family.
At the time, he was not wearing a life jacket. Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
The Livingston County Dive Team located Charrette’s body approximately four hours later, submerged in 33 feet of water. The cause of the drowning remains under investigation.
Charrette, remembered for his love of gathering with friends and family, was also passionate about golfing, bowling, and music.
His obituary highlights his deep faith and commitment to kindness and generosity. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and a significant other.
The response involved multiple agencies, including the Brighton Area Fire Department, Howell Fire Department, Hamburg Township police and fire departments, Livingston County EMS, Disaster Area Response Team, the Southeast Michigan Dive Group, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, and Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
