Fatal Forest Park Blue Line shooting death of Simeon Bihesi – Obituary.

On Monday morning, a mass shooting on a CTA Blue Line train in the Forest Park area claimed the lives of four passengers. Simeon Bihesi, a 28-year-old man, was identified as one of the victims.

The incident occurred shortly before 5:30 a.m. as the train approached the Forest Park terminal.

Three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the fourth, who was initially transported to a nearby hospital, later succumbed to their injuries.

As of Tuesday, officials had also identified a 52-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman among the deceased.

According to Deputy Chief Christopher Chin of the Forest Park Police, the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the public.

Authorities believe there was a single shooter who did not know the victims, who were likely asleep during the attack. There are no indications that robbery was a motive, and the attack seems to have been entirely random.

“This is an incredibly shocking event, especially given that it occurred on a holiday morning when people should be enjoying time with their families,” Chin remarked. “It’s a horrible situation that no one expects to wake up to on Labor Day.”

The suspected shooter was apprehended later that morning on a CTA Pink Line train, thanks to surveillance footage from CTA security and Forest Park Police. A weapon was recovered during the arrest.

As a result of the incident, Blue Line service between Forest Park and Austin was suspended, with shuttle buses provided as an alternative. Forest Park Mayor Rory Hoskins expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, calling it a “horrible tragedy” that occurred on Labor Day weekend.

In a statement, the CTA condemned the act as “heinous” and extended condolences to the families of the victims. The organization emphasized that the safety and security of passengers and employees remain a top priority and praised the swift actions of local law enforcement.

Mayor Hoskins also highlighted the need for increased resources in Forest Park, citing the growing number of incidents at the local train station, which has become the most frequent site of police and emergency responses in the area.

The mayor urged state lawmakers to provide additional support to help the village manage the demands of responding to two major train lines.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the shooting and have requested that anyone with information contact
