Fatal Des Moines shooting death of Tariq Reynolds – Obituary
Des Moines police have identified Tariq Reynolds, a 21-year-old, as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday.
Martavius Lamon Green, 19, faces charges of first-degree murder related to Reynolds’ death. The incident took place in a southside neighborhood of the city.
According to the police, Green was visiting a residence at 3400 S. Union St. when an argument broke out.
The situation escalated into a physical altercation, during which Reynolds intervened. Green, who is from Atlanta, Georgia, initially left the scene but returned and allegedly shot Reynolds twice in the upper torso with a 9mm handgun.
Police discovered a gun near Green as he attempted to evade capture. He reportedly confessed to using the gun in the shooting.
Authorities were alerted to the shooting at approximately 1:40 p.m. on Sunday. Reynolds was transported to a hospital where he later died.
Green is currently being held at Polk County Jail without bail. This incident marks the eighth homicide in Des Moines for the year 2024.
