Fatal Birmingham car crash claims the life of Willie Rodique Watts – Obituary

Two people lost their lives in separate traffic incidents in Birmingham over the holiday weekend. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victims as 41-year-old Willie Rodique Watts and a 48-year-old woman whose identity has not yet been disclosed.

 

Watts, a Birmingham resident, was involved in a single-vehicle accident early Monday morning on the 400 block of Third Avenue West. The crash occurred at 2:19 a.m., and Watts was subsequently transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:58 a.m. Further details surrounding the crash have not been made available at this time.

 

In a separate incident, a 48-year-old woman was fatally struck in a hit-and-run on Friday night in Birmingham’s southwest area.

The woman, whose name is being withheld until her family is notified, was crossing the road at the intersection of Princeton Avenue S.W. and Lomb Avenue S.W. when she was hit at 10:30 p.m.

She was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:58 p.m. The driver involved in the hit-and-run fled the scene and remains unidentified.

 

Birmingham police are conducting investigations into both of these tragic incidents.
