The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has released the names of two men whose bodies were recovered on Friday from the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound in Old Saybrook.
Ian Duchemin, 25, from Oakdale, and Ryan D. Britagna, 24, from Waterford, were identified as victims of the tragic boat accident. A third person who perished in the incident was named earlier this week.
The Department stated that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death for these individuals as the investigation continues. Their bodies were located after going missing since the boat collision on Monday night.
The identification of the deceased was delayed to notify the families, according to Will Healey, spokesperson for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
The incident occurred when a 31-foot open motor boat, returning from Block Island, hit the east break wall in Long Island Sound around 9 p.m. Monday. The severely damaged boat was found half-submerged near Harbor One Marina.
Nine people were aboard at the time. Christopher Hallahan, 34, from Westbrook, was previously identified as one of the victims. Hallahan, one of three initially missing, was later found deceased on the vessel.
Six other passengers were hospitalized, including the boat’s operator. A GoFundMe campaign set up for Hallahan reports he is survived by his wife Brittney, their dog Kobe, and other family members. The campaign has raised over $38,000 for funeral costs and intends to fund improved lighting on the Connecticut River break wall to prevent future tragedies.
The investigation is ongoing. DEEP expressed gratitude to the various agencies that contributed to the search and recovery efforts.
