Fatal Madison County accident death of James H. Roberts – Obituary
James H. Roberts, aged 67, has been identified as the victim of a tragic accident on Illinois Route 159 that occurred on Tuesday afternoon. The Madison County Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity following the incident.
Reports indicate that Roberts was operating a semi-truck carrying rocks southbound on Illinois Route 159 near North Deer Park Drive around 3:30 p.m. when a northbound truck, also loaded with rocks, veered across the center line and collided with his vehicle. The northbound truck had swerved to avoid a fuel tanker stopped in its lane, preparing to make a left turn. The driver of the northbound truck was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Roberts was declared dead shortly before 5 p.m. Preliminary findings from an autopsy point to blunt force trauma to the head, neck, and chest as the cause of death. However, a toxicological test is pending, and the final cause of death has yet to be determined. The Illinois State Police and their Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
