Authorities have confirmed the identity of a young man who was fatally shot in southeast Fresno over the weekend. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday near the intersection of Cherry Avenue and Golden State Boulevard. According to Fresno police, 22-year-old Alfonso Salgado was discovered with a gunshot wound in the roadway and did not survive his injuries.
An 18-year-old companion of Salgado was also struck by gunfire and was subsequently hospitalized but has since been discharged. The police are appealing to the community for assistance in identifying the shooter. Fresno Police Lt. Paul Cervantes emphasized the need for public help, noting that while some witnesses have been interviewed, others are still needed to come forward.
