Fatal downtown Lincoln shooting death of Saiveon Hopkins – Obituary

Saiveon Hopkins, a 24-year-old man, was shot and killed early Sunday morning in downtown Lincoln. According to Assistant Police Chief Jason Stille, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. near 11th and P streets, where Hopkins was struck in the chest. He was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. Another individual involved in the incident sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances leading to the shooting, which appears to have stemmed from an altercation outside a nearby bar. It is unclear what provoked the initial fight. At the time of the shooting, officers were already in the vicinity addressing various disturbances, and preliminary findings suggest no connection to the Saturday football game.

Police are urging anyone with information or video footage of the shooting to contact them at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
