The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who died following a car crash on Wednesday. George Edward Gomez, 36, passed away from blunt neck trauma after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into multiple trees in Southeast Bexar County.
The incident began when Gomez and another employee from a car lot pursued a person in an orange Dodge truck who was seen dumping trash on the property. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office received the initial call around 4 p.m. regarding the incident on the 12700 block of U.S. Highway 181.
According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, the driver of the Dodge truck brandished a gun during the chase, yet Gomez and his colleague continued their pursuit. There is a possibility that gunfire was exchanged between Gomez and the Dodge truck driver, though it remains unclear if Gomez was hit by any bullets.
Gomez’s vehicle ended up crashing into trees on the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 181 near Loop 1604, where he was found deceased. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for the driver of the Dodge truck.
