An 18-year-old participant from Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff’s BBC show Field of Dreams has tragically died in a car accident in Preston. Umar Mahmood was driving an Audi A3 Sport when he lost control and collided with trees on Chain Caul Way around 10:55 pm on Tuesday.
The crash also claimed the life of 16-year-old Adam Bodi. Both Mahmood and Bodi were alumni of Penwortham Priory Academy, which has since paid tribute to them. The school remembered Mahmood as a “bright, studious, and well-loved” individual, noting his ambition, kindness, and passion for geography and cricket.
Mahmood had been part of Field of Dreams, a show where Flintoff selected young people from less privileged areas of Lancashire to form a cricket team. Mahmood, chosen through the BYDS Youth Club in Preston, reflected positively on his experience, describing himself as an “all-rounder” and expressing joy over his performance on the show.
Flintoff spoke warmly of the participants, emphasizing his care for them beyond their cricket skills. The BBC also expressed condolences, saying the thoughts of the Field of Dreams team are with Mahmood’s family and friends.
A 17-year-old who was also in the car remains hospitalized but in stable condition.
