Fatal Goodhue County collision death of Simona Montiel Vera – Obituary
A tragic three-vehicle crash in Goodhue County has claimed the life of Simona Montiel Vera. The incident occurred around 1:12 a.m. on Saturday near mile marker 90 on Highway 52. Vera, 35, from San Diego, California, was driving a 2023 Toyota Tacoma northbound in the southbound lanes. A 2021 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 60-year-old Rochester woman, and a 2017 Jeep Compass, driven by Marisa Emily-Taylor Johnson, 25, of Rochester, were both traveling southbound.
The crash resulted in Vera sustaining life-threatening injuries, while Johnson survived with non-life-threatening injuries. The Rochester woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities from the Minnesota State Patrol reported that alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision. Emergency services from the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office, Zumbrota Police Department, Zumbrota Ambulance, and Cannon Falls fire, police, and ambulance all responded to the incident.
