On Tuesday evening, a tragic drowning occurred at a lake in south Wichita, claiming the life of 35-year-old Aubrey Mayo. Emergency responders were dispatched to the 3300 block of S. Broadway just before 10 p.m. after a report of Mayo’s disappearance.
Mayo was last seen swimming and using an inflatable tube. Her friends, who had left briefly, discovered the tube abandoned along the shore but found no trace of Mayo upon their return. Lieutenant Lee Eisenbise from the Wichita Police Department confirmed that despite an immediate search effort by fire and police teams, Mayo was found deceased.
Investigators suggest that alcohol might have played a role in the incident, and an autopsy is planned to determine the exact cause of death. The lake where the incident occurred is privately owned and frequently visited by various individuals.
