A 44-year-old man, identified as Dennis Decker from Philadelphia, lost his life late Sunday night in a high-speed accident on Route 22 in Dauphin County, officials reported.
According to the Dauphin County Coroner’s Office, Decker suffered multiple traumatic injuries after his Hyundai Sonata collided with a concrete overpass near the Fishing Creek Valley exit in Middle Paxton Township at approximately 11:38 p.m. His death was ruled accidental.
State police stated that Decker had been driving in the left lane of Route 22 when, for reasons unknown, his vehicle drifted onto the left shoulder. The car then sharply veered right, striking a box culvert—a concrete structure used for drainage—located in a grassy area beside the road. Following that impact, his car slammed into the Fishing Creek Valley Road overpass near mile marker 237.7.
Decker was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are still uncertain about his speed at the time of the crash.
The incident led to the closure of Route 22 until 4 a.m., according to PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler.
