A 16-year-old boy, Peter Hyman Jr., tragically lost his life in a shooting outside a Red Robin restaurant at the Citrus Park Town Center in Tampa this past weekend. His family expressed their devastation over losing him to what they described as a senseless act of gun violence.
The incident occurred around 7:16 p.m. on Saturday when deputies responded to a call reporting a shooting in the mall’s parking lot. Officers found Peter with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Peter, known as “PJ,” was a beloved honor student at Jefferson High School and an active member of Greater Mount Carmel Church. His family set up a GoFundMe page identifying him and paying tribute to his kind and vibrant nature. “He was only 16 years old. He was a good kid, honor student, and loved by so many,” the post shared. Peter was fond of dancing, playing video games, and basketball, and he was known for his fun and welcoming personality.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting. Chief Deputy Maurer mentioned that detectives are working closely with witnesses to understand the altercation that occurred prior to the shooting. “We are still looking into whether the individuals involved knew each other,” Maurer said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
