In the early hours of Labor Day, Sept. 2, a fatal shooting occurred on a Chicago commuter train, resulting in the deaths of four individuals. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Rhanni S. Davis from Chicago, has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder. Davis is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office has confirmed the identities of three of the deceased victims: Simeon Bihesi, 28, who was shot multiple times; Adrian Collins, 60; and Margaret A. Miller, 60, both of whom were shot in the head. The identity of the fourth victim, a male, remains undisclosed, but it has been reported that he also succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.
Authorities were alerted to the incident around 5:30 a.m. when gunfire was reported on a Blue Line train. By the time police arrived, the gunman had fled, but surveillance footage led to Davis’s capture on a Pink Line train in Chicago.
The Chicago Transit Authority described the event as an “isolated incident” and expressed that such violence should never occur on public transit. Forest Park Deputy Police Chief Chris Chin and Mayor Rory Hoskins mentioned that the victims were likely asleep at the time of the attack. Hoskins noted the community’s concern and the disturbing nature of the incident occurring on a day typically associated with leisure and family activities.
Calls for increased security on the trains have emerged from commuters, who have expressed concerns about safety in light of the shooting.
