Fatal Saratoga Springs shooting death of James Dellea – Obituary
James Dellea, a 48-year-old resident of Hillsdale, Columbia County, was shot and killed by New York State troopers on Wednesday, September 11, around 4 p.m. The incident took place in the parking lot of Bethel Saratoga, located at 3246 Route 9, Saratoga Springs.
Troopers were initially searching for Dellea due to concerns he might harm himself. They found him in the Albany-Saratoga Speedway parking lot but were unable to approach him as he fled the scene. A slow-speed pursuit ensued, leading the troopers to Dellea’s stop at Bethel Saratoga.
Despite repeated orders to exit his vehicle, Dellea remained inside and eventually drew a firearm. This prompted one of the troopers to discharge their weapon, resulting in Dellea’s death.
No other individuals were harmed, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The Attorney General’s Office has been notified, and the New York State Park Police and Saratoga Springs Police Department assisted at the scene.
