Fatal Citrus Park Town Center Mall shooting death of Peter “PJ” Hyman Jr. – Obituary
Peter “PJ” Hyman Jr., a 16-year-old, was tragically killed in a shooting outside Citrus Park Town Center Mall on Saturday night. PJ, who was at the mall with friends, was struck by gunfire around 7:16 p.m. near the Red Robin restaurant. His mother, Bianca Cooper, revealed that she had just dropped PJ off at the mall before receiving the heartbreaking news of the incident.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies reported that PJ was shot in the upper body and was pronounced dead at 8:22 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Authorities have not made any arrests, though two individuals were briefly detained for questioning but later cleared of involvement. The shooting reportedly followed an altercation that took place while the suspects were dining.
PJ was known as a diligent student at Jefferson High School with a passion for video games, basketball, and building LEGOs. He had recently expressed interest in pursuing engineering programs in college. His family is devastated by the loss and plans to hold a vigil for him at Riverwalk Park in Tampa.
