Fatal Belle Plaine crash death of Irene Castor – Obituary
Irene Castor, a 93-year-old resident of Belle Plaine, was involved in a fatal accident on Highway 169. Castor was traveling south in the northbound lanes when her vehicle collided head-on with a Chevy Silverado around 1 p.m., just south of downtown Belle Plaine. The Minnesota State Patrol reported that the crash closed northbound Highway 169 for several hours.
The driver of the Silverado, a 38-year-old man from Elk River, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and did not require hospitalization. Castor was pronounced dead at the scene, with the medical examiner attributing her death to multiple blunt force injuries from the collision. The cause of her driving in the wrong direction is still under investigation.
